William Keith Kennedy, 79, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at Rain Forest Landing. Born on December 26, 1945, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, Keith attended Rogers High School before earning his college degree from the University of North Alabama. Keith was also an active member of The Methodist Church in Collierville Tennessee. During his years in Maryville, Keith demonstrated a deep commitment to both his country and his community. He proudly served as a member of the National Reserves for many years, exemplifying dedication and patriotism. Guided by his generous and compassionate nature, Keith became a Boy Scout Leader, where he mentored young scouts and helped shape their character through outdoor adventures and community service. In addition, he volunteered with Sertoma of Maryville, working alongside fellow members to support local initiatives and address the needs of those in the community. Keith's involvement in these organizations reflected his lifelong passion for service and his desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. After his time with the Bank of Maryville, Keith continued his banking career by joining First Tennessee Bank in Memphis. There, he served as an IT Director for 35 years. Keith's legacy continues to live on through the many relationships he built and the associates he hired and mentored-many of whom remain valued members of the First Horizon family today. The knowledge, professionalism, and dedication he shared have left a lasting impact, shaping not only technology practices but the careers of associates and the culture of collaboration that defines the Bank. Keith was recognized for his sharp sense of style and always dressed professionally, reflecting the importance he placed on his role. He was just as enthusiastic about bringing joy to others, often donning a Disney costume when the technology department organized the annual Make a Wish celebrations for children. Additionally, Keith took pride in organizing the annual Turkey Trotters Golf Tournament, an event that brought employees together for a day of camaraderie and friendly competition. These tournaments became a beloved tradition, providing a fun and memorable opportunity for colleagues to bond outside of work. Beyond fostering team spirit, Keith ensured that the tournament had a meaningful impact on the community. The proceeds from each tournament were dedicated to supporting families in need during Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving Day, Keith personally delivered meals to those less fortunate, exemplifying his commitment to service and generosity. Keith was deeply passionate about golfing, NASCAR, and Alabama football. Following his retirement, he and his wife Carolyn settled in a golfing community in Vonore, Tennessee, where he eagerly seized every chance to play a round-whether with friends or newcomers. If you visited Keith on NASCAR race days, you might as well sit back, relax and watch the race. Keith loved sharing the excitement and discussing his favorite drivers and race strategies. During football season, Keith remained a loyal fan of Alabama, cheering for his team through every win and loss. Keith is survived by "the love of his life" as he often said through their 36 years of marriage, Carolyn Kennedy, who stood by his side through all of life's milestones. Keith cherished granddaughter, Kelsey Howell of Hohenwald, TN, and fiancé Trevor Boyd, celebrating her achievements and sharing many special moments. He is also remembered fondly by his stepson, Steven Hill of Knoxville. In addition, Keith is survived by his caring sisters, Janice Corum and Wanda McGee (Royce). He is also fondly remembered by 2 nieces in Alabama, all of whom were touched by his kindness and generosity. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Lois Gamble and Edgar L. Kennedy, as well as his beloved stepdaughter, Melissa Howell. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at UT Hospice and to the nurses and care partners at Rain Forest Landing for their exceptional care and support. Their compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment provided comfort and reassurance during this difficult time, and their kindness will be fondly remembered and deeply appreciated. The details of The Celebration of Keith's Life will be announced later. Condolences may be shared at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
