Obituary

Wayne Lee Teffeteller, age 81, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones. Wayne was born on 9/8/44 in Maryville to Luther & Irene Teffeteller.

Wayne was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he channeled his strong work ethic into building a successful business. For 56 years, he was the proud owner and operator of Smoky Mountain Heating & Cooling, a fixture of reliable service in the region.

He was married to the absolute love of his life, Janice Foxx Teffeteller, for 60 beautiful years. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and deep affection.

Wayne possessed a vibrant passion for the outdoors. He could be found hunting, fishing, or tending to his garden. He was also a passionate supporter of Tennessee sports, cheering on his favorite teams through every season. Known to everyone as a master storyteller, Wayne always had a captivating tale to share that could light up any room.

Above all else, Wayne loved his family. His devotion to them was unmatched, and he especially treasured his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.

His faith was the cornerstone of his life. Wayne served as a dedicated Deacon at Piney Level Baptist Church for 44 years, a role he held with great honor until health challenges led to his resignation. His warmth, his stories, and his generous spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Janice; his children and their spouses, Norma (Chuck)

Underwood, Leigh Ann (Chad) Newton, and Jana (Seth) Ray; he was a proud Papaw to his 8 beloved grandchildren; Kayleigh, Gage, CJ, Jalyn, Kash, Livi, Emery, and Kinslee.

He is also survived by his devoted brother, Arthur Teffeteller, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his special uncle and hunting partner, Floyd Boring; his parents; in-laws; and numerous brothers, sisters, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Smith Funeral and Cremation in Maryville, TN. Funeral Service will be at 3:00 pm with Rev. George Macht and Rev. Reece Boling officiating. Interment will be held immediately after the service at 4:00 pm following at Piney Level Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Piney Level Cemetery Fund, 3527 Piney Level Church Rd, Maryville, TN 37803.
