Warren P. Bagley

Warren P. Bagley, MD age 59 of Maryville passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010. He was born April 11, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri to Charles and Nancy Poore Bagley who preceded him in death. He graduated from The Westminister Schools, Atlanta, Georgia in 1969. He received his B.A. from Rice University in 1973, and graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with an M.D. in 1979. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1987 and he was board certified in Anesthesiology and Medical Acupuncture. He was an assistant professor of Anesthesia at UTMCK; belonged to the American Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society, American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, and was a Life Endowment member of NRA. Warren was a U.S. Army veteran who proudly served as a physician from 1977- 1989. During that time he was a flight surgeon and later completed specialty training as an anesthesiologist. As his final active duty assignment, Lieutenant Colonel Bagley was the Chief of Anesthesia and Operative Services at Fort Meade, Maryland. While serving he completed several military courses, including the U.S. Army Ranger school. He earned numerous military awards and decorations for his service. Warren was one of the original organizers and a charter member of the American Gaited Mule Association, where he served as secretary treasurer for seventeen years. He enjoyed raising and showing gaited mules, especially Georgia Peach, who won many ribbons. In addition to rescuing many animals himself, Warren contributed to several animal welfare organizations and was happy when Blount County was able open its own animal shelter. He is survived by his wife of 20 years; Elizabeth Gilmore; sons, Steven of Seoul, South Korea, and Christopher and wife Atoosa of Germantown, Maryland, granddaughter, Alyssa; brother, Samuel and wife, Regina, brother-in-law, Brigadier General R.W. and wife Trish Thomas, sisters, Faye and husband Jurek Marty, Nancy and husband Don Richards. Warren leaves behind many rescued dogs, especially Rita rescued from Hurricane Rita. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Reginald Gilmore. A celebration of his life will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Smithview Pavilion with Rev. George Doebler officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at the Smithview Pavilion, 601 Smithview Drive, Maryville.
