Vernon Rymer Shamblin transitioned to his heavenly home peacefully on July 7, one day after his 95th birthday, surrounded by his family. He served 4 years in US Airforce as a mechanic on B-52 bombers. In 1994, he retired from Ford Motor Credit Company after 34 years of service. During his retirement, he enjoyed going to the Museum of Appalachia where he demonstrated caning chairs. He was an active member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church for over 7O years and served many years as a Gideon, sharing Bibles and his faith. He never met a stranger and was quick to strike up conversations with anyone he met. He will also be remembered for his quick sense of humor and joking nature. A proud father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family, one of the good ones! Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Margaret E. “Judy” Hitch Shamblin, his siblings Meredith Jordan, Crowder Shamblin, Edna Margaret King, and Carl Shamblin. He is survived by his three children, Shay Shamblin (Twila), Tom Shamblin (Terry), and Charis Davis (Richard). He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the staff at Brookdale at Browns Creek, his home for the past 2 years, Everett Hills Baptist Church who provide a weekly ministry at Brookdale, Gentiva Hospice and the wonderful care givers from Senior Helpers! You all made his final years so special and happy. A private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date for the family. Condolences may be shared at www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com. Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000 is helping the family at this time.
