Shelton Jane Belcher, 80, of Alcoa, TN went to be with Jesus on July 31, 2026. She courageously battled Parkinson’s Disease for more than a decade and will be remembered for her gentle spirit and selfless personality. In her final weeks, she was surrounded by her loving family who she was deeply devoted to. Shelton was born in Madisonville, TN to Johnnie Ruth Stiles. She was named after her father, Shelton, who passed away from cancer before her birth. She recently told one of her granddaughters that she was looking forward to meeting her daddy in heaven. This Godly woman thrived in her many family roles. As a daughter she was respectful and faithful. In the hard times that her family encountered she was consistently helpful and loving. As a sister she was gracious with a quiet strength. She treasured laughter and family stories with her dear siblings. As a wife to her husband Vaughn of 63 years, her love and adoration was a shining example of marriage rooted in Biblical principles. Her support for him as a successful educator and public servant was unwavering. As a mom, she raised two incredibly loving and talented children in a home that taught Christian values. That rearing propelled her daughter and son toward successful professional careers and beautiful family lives of their own. As Mamaw, she was rewarded with 3 exceptional granddaughters who inherited her kindness and sweet demeanor. These three young women gave her so much joy and were a source of strength and pride for her during the dark days of battling her illness. As great-grandmother, she enjoyed nearly two years of visits from sweet Lucy. She watched another fun, strong, and independent girl carry on family traits of determination and happiness. Even through this period of profound sadness and grief, the family will carry on in joy because that’s what she would’ve wanted. While they mourn her loss, there will be rejoicing at Thanksgiving and Christmas. They will remember her January birthday and bring cheerful Valentines flowers to her graveside. Birthdays will continue to be celebrations in her honor. During family-get-togethers, laughter and tears will fill rooms where her absence will be deeply felt. Her family will go forth in the love, joy, and devotion she so effortlessly gave. Shelton is survived by her husband Vaughn, daughter and son-in-law Anissa and Link Hudson, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter David, Laura and Bradynn Belcher, granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and great granddaughter Jane, Shawn and Lucy Wichert, granddaughter and grandson-in-law Kate and Jackson Hounshell, sisters Mary Spann and Princess Russell, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Johnnie Ruth Stiles Hicks, father Shelton Stiles, and brother John Stiles. Shelton Jane Belcher, what a legacy, what a life! Strength and honor are her clothing: and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. (Proverbs 31:25-28). Family and friends will assemble for graveside service and interment at 12:00 PM, Friday, August 7, 2026 at Grandview Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
