Sandra J. Shaver (Grindstaff), age 73, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on September 15, 1952, in Indiana to Elmer L. and M. Jeanette Grindstaff, Sandra was the youngest of six brothers and sisters. She grew up in Sacramento, California, before moving to Tennessee with her parents at the age of 18. Sandra spent many years living in Gatlinburg, where she worked at the Pancake Pantry and Rolf Lanz Ski Shop before later making her home in Knoxville. She was a devoted mother, loving Oma, cherished sister, loyal friend, and a woman whose kindness touched the lives of many.
Sandra dedicated much of her life to her career, spending many years as a valued employee of U.S. Cellular and later with Covenant Health. She took immense pride in her work and believed deeply in giving her best in everything she did. Her strong work ethic, compassion, and commitment to others left a lasting impression on coworkers and friends alike.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer L. Grindstaff and M. Jeanette Grindstaff; her brothers, Max Whitehead, Jimmy Grindstaff, and Donnie Grindstaff; and her sisters, Betty Charles Bertoncini, Lois Ann Hopson, and Elma Ammons.
Sandra leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and will miss her beyond words, including her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberlie and Thomas Bailey III; her beloved grandchildren, Thomas Bailey IV, Katie Bailey (McKenzie Jenkins), and Maxwell Bailey (Rebecca Arreola); and her precious great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Bailey. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and treasured friends who became family throughout the years.
Graveside services for family and close friends will be held at Grandview Cemetery, July 24th, 2026 at 12:00. Pallbearers: Thomas Bailey III, Thomas Bailey IV, Katie Bailey, Maxwell Bailey, Jordan Householder and Tommy Shultz.
Celebration of life will be held at Sandra’s home in East Knox County from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, July 24, 2026, those interested in attending please reach out to a member of the family for address.
