Rose Mary Stephens, age 89 of Maryville, passed away January 14, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born in Harlan, KY, on May 9, 1932. She and her husband raised their children in Illinois and retired to Maryville in 1991. Rose worked as a CNA for many years and was a caretaker for her brothers and sisters-in-law over the years. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and never met a stranger or critter she didn’t love. She wouldn’t let anything stop her from spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending bluegrass jam sessions with her husband where she danced to her heart’s content. Preceded in death by parents, Boyd and Arlie Price; brother, Paul Brinkley; sister, Maudella King. Survived by husband of 63 years, J.R. Stephens; children, Charles (Mary) Stephens, Michael Stephens, Mary (Dale) Craig, Gwen (Roy) Carney; grandchildren, Trisha Carney, Jon (Megan) Carney, Savanna Carney, Jay Stephens, Brandon Craig; three great-granddaughters; beloved dog, Bug; and numerous nieces and nephews. A loving thanks to Gwen, Savanna, and Jon for being special caretakers of Granny over the years. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Asbury Place for their love and care of Rosie. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Smith Trinity Chapel with funeral service at 2:00 PM with Rev. Frank Mason officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 3:00 PM for Interment at Grandview Cemetery. The family is requesting those attending to please wear a mask.
