The world lost a fiercely independent, creative, and unconditionally loving soul on September 19, 2026, when Rita Sharon Holt passed away at the age of 79. Born on December 29, 1946, Rita was a woman who walked through life with an admirable strength and a heart big enough for everyone she met. A proud UT Vol, Rita took her degree and her passion for helping others into the classroom, retiring after a meaningful career in teaching. However, "teacher" was just one of many titles she held; Rita was truly a woman of many trades, constantly exploring new skills, creating art, and bringing beauty into the world. Her home was always filled with the things she loved most: vibrant artwork, the loyal companionship of her dogs, and the laughter of her family. Rita has gone home to be with her parents, Russell and Anna Bell Holt, and her two sons, William and Brian Flynn, who preceded her in death. She leaves behind a family who will forever miss her fierce spirit and gentle guidance, including her siblings, Gary Holt, Larry Holt, and Donna Jemley; her granddaughter, Chelsie Flynn; her great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Brody Astrofsky; and her nieces and nephews, Rusty, Garrett, Landon, Kaela, Hallie, Jack and her dear friends.
