Obituary

Raymond Joe Burchfield Sr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Joe on the morning of Thursday, January 15, 2026. With his wife by his side, he quietly slipped away after a courageous fight with several health issues. Joe was very loved by his wife, Family, and friends. The room was never quiet if he was in it. He kept conversations going. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Joe worked for Lee Lambert for many years operating a drilling rig that included water wells to blast holes for East TN area rock quarries for Vulcan Materials. He enjoyed Dirt track car racing, fishing local lakes and feeding his deer down by the creek every evening on his lawn mower. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Elsie Burchfield, Son Raymond “Little Joe” Burchfield Jr., brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife Teresa, Daughters Tamitha and Jennifer, Son Travis, brother M.T. Lawson and wife Evelyn ,as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great granddaughter, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and many friends.

A funeral service and military Honors will be held and East Tennessee State Veterans cemetery on John Seveir Highway on January 29th, 2026, at 2:00PM. Reverend Dean Mullins will be officiating. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time. Condolences may be shared through Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, TN, 865-983-1000
