Randy Joe Leonard was born on June 08, 1952 to Luria R. Leonard (née Stephens) and James H. Leonard. The youngest of four Randy grew up in Maryville surrounded by family. He graduated from Walland High School in 1970 where he played varsity football.
One of Randy's greatest passions was aviation. He was a flight engineer and loadmaster in the United States Air Force. His service included missions during the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Operation Just Cause, Operation Restore Hope, Operation Provide Promise, as well as multiple NATO and UN missions for Kosovo, Bosnia, Mongolia, Africa; and operations throughout the Far East. Randy retired from duty as a Master Sergeant. He then flew as a commercial flight engineer for several cargo airlines including Kalitta and Buffalo Airlines.
Randy was diagnosed with end stage renal disease in 2018. Randy passed on November 18, 2024 at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Jamie Travis-Leonard (Thong Nguyen); grandchildren Kylie Nguyen and Sophia Nguyen; siblings Jimmy Leonard, Anna Ruth Nichols (née Leonard), and Steven Leonard (Irene Leonard); nieces and nephews Melissa McLaughlin (Patrick McLaughlin), Christopher Leonard, Zachary Leonard, Alexandra Leonard, and Madison Leonard-Thomas (Christopher Thomas). The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM with a Celebration of Randy’s life to follow at 3:00 PM with Steven Leonard officiating.
