Obituary

Randall Lynn Payne, 72, passed away at his home, surrounded by family and love, on Friday, June 5, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas "D.C." Payne and Betty Payne.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Corey and Claire Payne; his daughter, Laramie Payne; and his beloved grandchildren, Kylee and Gia Payne. He is also survived by his brothers, Johnny Payne and wife Evelyn, Bill Payne and wife Sandy, Ken Payne and wife Gina of Kodak, Tennessee, and Danny Payne; his sisters, Teresa Payne and Tamyra Loveday and husband David; and many nieces and nephews.

Randall grew up in Maryville and graduated from Everett High School. He was a man of exceptional work ethic and unshakable humor. He brightened the days of so many; bringing warmth and support when he was around. His jokes and laugh brought joy to our lives that could never be replaced. Gentle and quiet by nature he was a devoted brother, father, and Papaw. A skilled craftsman who loved to make his creations come to life. He loved fishing with his son and daughter-in-law; doing more laughing and casting than catching was what he was known for. Always making sure to spend time with his granddaughters who he loved “to the moon and back.” He left a beautiful mark on their hearts that could only be described best by them. Returning his love for them by loving him “to the furthest planet and back.” Those times are held dear to our hearts.

He will be remembered for the strength of his character, the quality of his craftsmanship, and the kindness he showed to those around him. Though he is gone, he lives on through the work of his hands, memories made, and the many lives he touched. We are immensely grateful for our time with him.

A celebration of life will be held at Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Pavilion on July 25th from 1-5. We will be grilling hotdogs, hamburgers, and making sure to serve watermelon with salt, just the way he liked it. All are welcome who want to come enjoy the scenery that he had so many times himself, reminisce and laugh about old times, and enjoy good food all the while.
