Quinton Hatcher, 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 17, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Born on September 24, 1933, to Harvey and Opal Hatcher, Quinton became a special man that friends and family adored.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and spent his career managing JCPenney stores across the Southeast. He served his church as a deacon, his community as a lifetime Rotarian, and retired in Morristown, TN. He later moved to Maryville to be closer to family.
Quinton was known for his sharp wit, warm heart, and immense love for children, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His nieces and nephews lovingly called him “Uncle Squanky,” a name that stuck with affection. He found joy in gardening, especially tending to the beloved wildflower garden at their mountain home in Little Switzerland, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Wilma Wright Hatcher; children Mark (Linda), Lori (Mike), and Greg (Kate); grandchildren Bryan, Cameron, Caroline, Gerald, Quinn, Davenport, and Harris; great-grandchildren Shelby, Dylan, Evie and Cameron; and his brother, Wendell. He was preceded in death by siblings Vaughn and Glenda.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 from 10:00 until 11:00 AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at Smith Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Caregiver Superhero Society. Condolences may be shared through Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com
