Obituary

Peggy Jane Gilbert, 84, of Tennessee, died on August 20, 2026, in Alcoa.

Born on September 15, 1941, Peggy Jane Hord Gilbert built a life marked by dedication to her work, devotion to her family, and deep faith. She attended Louisville Elementary School, Friendsville High School, and Draughn's Business College. After graduating from Draughn's, she worked over the years at Dempster Brothers, Veach-May Wilson, Maryville College, and Child and Family Services. After leaving Child and Family Services, she took her realtor’s test and began working at Volunteer Realty, later continuing her career at Caldwell Bankers Realtors.

Peggy was a member of Middlesettlements Methodist Church and loved her Sunday School. class. She loved her home, family, traveling, flowers, pets, reading and poetry, and sports of all kinds. She was described as driven and goal oriented, always loving a project and readily helping others. She often said she had been blessed a million times over and that without her faith, she would never have been able to accomplish anything.

She is survived by her sister, Suzanne Gregg (Jim Gregg); her daughters, Cynthia Suzanne Alloway (Bobby Alloway), LuJean Buckner (Tim Buckner), and LeAnne Moore (Todd Moore); her grandchildren, Anna Catherine Alloway, Abby Louise Brown, Charlton Cain Buckner, Eden Eliza Clamon, Maggie Jane Patterson, Suzanna Grace Reilly, and Caroline Jewel Moore; and her great-grandchildren, Junia Brown, Simon Brown, Tatum Buckner, Axel Buckner, Lottie Jane Patterson, and Nellie Louise Patterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bonnie Louise Phelps and Arnold Hord; her sister, Nancy Louise Brown (Harold Brown); and her husband, Billy Jack “Buddy” Gilbert.

A graveside service will be held on August 25, 2026 at 11:00 am, at Middlesettlements Methodist Church, 2729 Middlesettlements Rd, Louisville, Tennessee 37801. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Middlesettlements Cemetery Committee.
