Patricia Pitchford Moore born in Hartshorne, OK July 9, 1934, departed this life for her heavenly reward Tuesday, April 15, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Patricia grew up in Rodeo, CA (San Francisco Bay area) and Ada, OK. She graduated from Ada High School, Ada, OK; BA Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, OK 1956; attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and the Summer Linguistics Institute, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 1965; Harvest Queen Oklahoma Baptist University 1955 (highest student elected honor); Summer staff, Glorieta Baptist Assembly, Glorieta, NM. She was an Elementary teacher in Albuquerque, NM, Oklahoma City, OK, Nashville, TN, Memphis, TN, a missionary to Gaza of Foreign Mission Board of Southern Baptist Convention 1964 - 1976, and a substitute teacher for Alcoa City Schools. Patricia was on the Board of Directors of Carson Newman College, Jefferson City, TN; Baptist Campus Ministries at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She was Moderator of Chairman Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship 1990; various offices of Womens Missionary Union in Chilhowee Baptist Association and State of Tennessee. Patty was cofounder of the Chilhowee Baptist Center. She was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church, Maryville, TN. Patty had a lifelong love for the Bible and read the Bible through every year. She enjoyed teaching the Bible in multiple settings in her church and community. She taught Sunday School for many years with special interest in and focus on young adults. Preceded in death by: Mother, Golda Gragg Pitchford; Father, James Clyde Pitchford; Sister-in-law, Virginia Pitchford; Aunts, Pauline Sorrells of Little Rock, AK, Estelle Unsell of Wister, OK, Pauline Anderson of Hugo, OK. Survived by: Husband, Merrill D. Moore M.D.; Son, Merrill Douglas Moore and daughter-in-law, Sharon Tilson Moore; Grandsons, Seth Christian Moore and Ethan Douglas Moore of Maryville, TN; Daughter, Melissa Ann Shaw; grandson, Jonathan Beck; granddaughters, Patricia Ann Beck and Lauren Mishoe of Louisville, TN; Brother, Clyde Ed Pitchford and wife Sue of Lafayette, CA; nephews, Philip Pitchford of Rolling Hills Estates, CA and Gary Pitchford and wife Diana and 3 children (Scott, Stephen, Michelle) of Alamo, CA; Cousins, Barry Sorrells of Little Rock, AR and Gunnar W. Anderson of Enid, OK. Family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM, Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Monte Vista Baptist Church, 1735 Old Niles Ferry Road, Maryville, TN. The funeral will follow at 7:30 PM with Pastor Jerry Mantooth officiating. Following this, a celebration will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Monte Vista Baptist Church, to which all attendees are invited. Family and friends will gather for Patty's burial at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 20, 2008 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Alcoa Highway, Alcoa, TN. The pallbearers will be: Scott Elrod, Russ Whaley, Jack Raby, Greg Blackstock, Brad Beshore, Bob Newman, Ken Brown, and Glen Nief. Special thanks for supporting her life to Dr. David Rankin, Dr. Russell Devore and Tennessee Cancer Specialists, Dr. John Goodwin, Dr. Scott Rosenbloom and Knoxville Radiology Group; Dr. James Denneny; Baptist Home Health and Apria Healthcare.
