Obituary

Nelda Sue Kidd, age 94, of Alcoa, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at her home. She was born on February 6, 1932, to William and Hettie French. Nelda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph Kidd. She is survived by her children, Deborah Vesser (Kent), Susan Villaume (Jim), Karen Middleton (Curtis), and Robert Kidd (Leslie); grandchildren, Erin White (John), Lauren Wasilition (Graham), Nathan Villaume (Paige), Megan Villaume, Katie Black (Carey), Hannah Hayes (Zach), Becca Calhoun (Josh), Eli Kidd, and Maddy Kidd; nine great-grandchildren; and her dear cousin, Mary Ann Hale. A lifelong resident of Alcoa, Nelda was a proud and devoted alumna of Alcoa City Schools. In addition to working as a paraprofessional in the system for 15 years, she and Ralph, along with David Duggan, were the founding members of the Alcoa Alumni Association. Nelda served in multiple leadership roles within the Association. In recognition of her dedication, she received the Alcoa City Schools Foundation’s Legacy of Service Award in 2015. In 2022, in honor of her 90th birthday, the City of Alcoa presented her with a special proclamation paying tribute to her longstanding commitment to the Association and the community. In 2025, she was one of four alumni recognized at Alcoa City Schools 100th Year Anniversary celebration. Until the time of her death, she remained faithful in clipping articles about Alcoa alumni from The Daily Times. In addition to her enduring commitment to Alcoa City Schools, Nelda was a voracious reader and an avid gardener. Her family and friends were the grateful recipients of many of her books and plants. Prior to becoming homebound, Nelda attended Alcoa First Baptist Church and volunteered at the Chilhowee Baptist Center. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to their mother’s devoted caregivers, Angie Lindsey and Pat Lambert, who provided compassionate care and constant companionship throughout her final years. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chilhowee Baptist Center,1905 E.
