Myrtle (Myrt) Chapman Powell, 94, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her residence on August 20, 2026. Ms. Powell was a devout individual who cherished her family and loved her Lord Jesus. She dedicated over two decades to her profession as a dental assistant and served as a church pianist for more than 45 years across two different congregations. Her late husband, Maurice, particularly enjoyed her musical talents; they often listened to her recorded performances during their extensive travels. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Gertrude Chapman, her devoted husband of 51 years, Maurice Powell, and four siblings. She is survived by her son, Lester Powell; her daughter, Trudy (Mike) Spencer; her grandchildren, Casey (Mary) Powell, Amanda (Derek) Williams, and Melissa (Justin) Hopkins; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, including her namesake, two-month-old Myrtle Tindell. Her favorite passages in scripture that brought her the most comfort were 1 Corinthians 13:1-10 and Psalm 118:24. "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."
