With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Alvin Welch Sr., affectionately known as Vernon by his family. Raised in the embrace of the majestic Smoky Mountains, Mike's story was one of triumph through challenges, guided by his unwavering perseverance, unconditional generosity, and resilience. Born on June 6, 1957 and departing on August 16, 2023. His presence touched the lives of many. Mike's devotion extended first and foremost to his role as a dedicated father and loving husband. The rugged landscapes of the Smoky Mountains served as a fitting backdrop to his steadfast commitment to his family, echoing his enduring strength. Outside his family, he demonstrated his love for others through his generosity, offering a helping hand whenever it was needed. Mike's giving nature knew no bounds, as he selflessly gave of himself, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back. Beyond the mountains that shaped his early years, Mike's talents and passions were vast and varied. From his skilled handiwork on farming and machinery, he channeled his energy into creating, repairing, and building. For over 25 years, Mike dedicated his skills to ALCOA, where his work ethic became emblematic of his character. Yet, it was his faith and unyielding perseverance that defined his journey, guiding him through all life’s challenges. He was a living testament to the verse, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Though Mike's physical presence may have departed, his memory lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the love he shared. Rest in peace, Mike. Your spirit endures as a guiding light through life's peaks and valleys. As we come together to celebrate Mike's life, let us carry forward his legacy of perseverance, hard work, and generosity.
