Mary Lynn Cate, 63, a native of Maryville, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Adult Community Training Medical Home in Lenoir City. Mary Lynn was a special child of God since birth. Despite her special needs and limitations she was a very social and polite person who showed love and respect for all. She had a very beautiful prayer life that showed deep faith and maturity beyond her normal abilities. Her parents Virginia (Justice) and E.J. Cate of Maryville, who preceded her in death, devoted themselves to developing and protecting their special little girl. Mary Lynn moved to Loudon County in 1993 to live with her brother and sister-in-law Larry & Kaye Cate. She later made her home with ACT where she became active in many life skills and was a part of the “companion home�? program until declining health made it necessary she move to the “medical home.�? She was always happy, smiling and was a favorite of her many ACT friends, companions and staff. Other survivors include a brother Rev. Dan Cate and wife Donna of Kansas, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and many special friends at Adult Community Training. The family wishes to acknowledge the dozens upon dozens Adult Community staffers and clients who became Mary Lynn’s extended family. Also, Dr. Milan Sheth, the many physicians, nurses, Home Healthcare of East Tennessee and Hospice Personnel of Sweetwater for the special care Mary Lynn received. Family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 PM, Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Smith Trinity Chapel in Maryville with funeral service at 2:30 PM. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Mary Lynn’s nephew Rev. Gene Cate will officiate assisted by her brother Rev. Dan Cate, ACT Medical Home director Daphne Moses and sister-in-law Kaye Cate. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the Life Event Center immediately following the graveside service. Memorials may be sent to Adult Community Training, 402 A.
