Margaret Joan Canham Henry, age 89, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, at Clover Hill Senior Living.
Margaret was born on November 17, 1936, in Mulbarton, Norfolk, England, a small village near Norwich. She grew up during the difficult years of World War II and often shared stories of her childhood in war-torn England. While those years were marked by uncertainty and hardship, she fondly remembered the kindness of the American soldiers who visited her school and brought candy and treats to the children.
Margaret attended Notre Dame High School for Girls, where she earned a scholarship—an accomplishment she remained proud of throughout her life. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed keeping her mind active through reading, trivia, and puzzles.
As a young woman, Margaret met an American Air Force airman from Maryville, Tennessee, who was stationed near her home. They married and shared a long life together as a military family. After living in several locations, they settled in Maryville in 1974, where they raised their two sons and established deep roots in the community.
Margaret was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She raised her two sons with a practical sense of humor and was immensely proud of them, as well as her grandson, who brought her great joy. Known for her quick wit, she maintained a realistic and grounded perspective on family life and everyday situations. Raised in the Church of England, Margaret continued to practice her Protestant faith after moving to the United States. Her faith was a foundational pillar of her life, and she found great comfort and strength in prayer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert ("Herb") and Millicent ("Millie") Canham; her beloved husband of more than 50 years, David "Houston" Henry; and her sisters-in-law, Wanda Jackson and Veronica Canham.
She is survived by her sons, Dave Henry of Knoxville and Richard Henry and wife Donna Henry of Maryville; her grandson, Ethan Henry of Maryville; her brother, John Canham of England; her sister-in-law, Joyce Davis of Maryville; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Clover Hill Senior Living for the exceptional care, kindness, friendship, and companionship they provided during Margaret's final two years. Their compassion helped make those years a special season of life filled with activities, meaningful relationships, and cherished memories.
Though she will be deeply missed by those who loved her, her family rejoices in the assurance that she has been reunited with her husband and other loved ones who went before her. Her legacy of love, faith, resilience, humor, and steadfast devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
