Lida Judson Norman, age 96 of Knoxville, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023. Lida was born to Rev. Virgil and Fannie May Cofield on January 17, 1927 in Melbourne, Fla. She was one of four girls and is survived by Mrs. Lee Kennard of Orlando, Fla. and Mrs. Sylvia George of Hopedale, Ma. In addition to several nieces and nephews. Rev. Cofield relocated to Newberry, Fla. In 1937 and Lida graduated High School in 1944 and began attending Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. In September of 1944. In January of 1946, while attending Stetson, she met Hub Norman who had just returned from World War II, and they were married on August 1 of that year. Hub and Lida had two sons, Steve born in 1947 and Kim born in 1957. Lida was very active in the Trinity Methodist Church in DeLand and continued her work in the Methodist churches, which she attended during Hubs many moves during his career. She was greatly responsible of the rearing of their boys, as Hub’s job required much traveling during their long marriage. Lida was largely responsible for the very successful careers of both Steve and Kim: Steve as a career Airforce Officer and Kim as a very successful Dentist. Lida was very supportive of Hub during his career and was very understanding when he was traveling. After Hub’s retirement Hub and Lida moved from Memphis to Maryville in order to be closer to one of their sons (Kim). They have resided in Maryville since 1990 and have attended Fairview United Methodist Church since moving here. They are active members of the Sparkplug Sunday School Class and Lida has been Treasurer of that class for several years. She has, also, been a member of the Millie Smith Circle since she joined Fairview in 1991. Lida is, also, secretary of this Circle. Family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 PM Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Smith Trinity Chapel. The Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ron Matthews officiating.
