Lena Margaret Myers

Lena Margaret (Herron) Myers, born May 26, 1925, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, January 16, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She worked for the Aluminum Company of America prior to beginning her retail career which spanned several decades. She managed a small dress shop in downtown Maryville before joining J. C. Penney Company, where she spent many years in charge of the selling staff for the entire store. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling with friends and church members to various locations. She particularly loved Florida, where she lived when first married and vacationed several times each year. She was a talented cook and excellent seamstress. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a loyal member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alcoa for more than 60 years and was an active leader in the church teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was Past Matron and an active member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians. Preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Amanda (Wolfe) Herron, her husband, William Kenneth Myers, and infant daughter, Sharon Jean Myers. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth (Kenny) and Karen Myers; son, Gary Myers; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Herb Handly; grandchildren, Lori Jones and husband, Jeff, Daniel Moyers, Sam Myers and wife, Stacy, David Moyers and wife, Ruth Ann, and Clara Toomey and husband, Brock; great-grandchildren, Cody and Cole McMillan, Logan and Savannah York, Taylor Seals, Natasha Robinson, and Clark Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Ray Herron, Ronald and Norma Herron, Franklin and Phyllis Herron; sister and brother-in-law, Clarice and Harold Marine; brother-in-law, Ray Myers; sister-in-law, Dot Hughes; and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by her dearest and closest friend, Clarence Hedrick, and loyal and constant companion, her dog, Petey. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011, with funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Smith Trinity Chapel with Rev. Danny Davis officiating. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Shady Grove Cemetery in Miser Station.
