Judy Gay Gunter Baumbach

Judy Gay Gunter Baumbach, age 73, passed away on January 12, 2026, at home in Knightdale. She was born September 27, 1952, in Maryville, Tennessee, to the late John Merideth Gunter, Sr. and Mamie Lorene Buchanan Gunter. Judy was a licensed real estate agent in Tennessee and North Carolina, office manager for the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects, and a loving wife, mother, daughter, and foster mother. Judy is survived by her husband, Dr. George Allan Baumbach; son, Jim Julian; brother, Kelley Trent (Evelyn) Gunter of Maryville; brother-in-law, Gregory George (Karen) Baumbach of Vallejo, California; sisters-in-law: Debra Dillman Gunter of Knoxville, Tennessee, Margaret Ann Baumbach Oden of Midland, Texas, Nancy Baumbach (Sherman) Hall of Floyd, Virginia, Rebecca Hord Baumbach of Flower Mound, Texas; foster son, Dalton McKay Bare of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Jane Julian; brother, John Merideth Gunter, Jr.; sister, Sarah Louise Gunter Wright; and brother-in-law, William George Baumbach. The family will receive friends and relatives from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, Friday, January 16, 2026, at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale. A second visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, January 22, 2026, at Smith Funeral Service, 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, Tennessee 37803.
