Obituary

Dennis Ridley, 74, of Maryville, Tennessee, passed peacefully at home on October 21, 2026, following a courageous 13-year battle with the effects of pancreatic cancer. Throughout his journey, Dennis was an inspiration to many fellow cancer patients, demonstrating remarkable courage, faith, and perseverance. His life was defined by his faith in God, his devotion to his family, his service to his church and country, and his genuine friendship to all who knew him. Dennis was a proud graduate of South Pittsburg High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College. He answered the call to serve his country by training to become a U.S. Navy pilot, dedicating 21 years to military service. Following his Navy career, he continued flying for another 18 years as an airline pilot with FedEx. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Faye Ridley; his brother, Steve Ridley; and his sister, Carol Ridley Moore. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Nancy Surface Ridley; his brother, Mike Ridley; his sister, Jody Ridley Judge; his sons, Robert “Bo” Ridley and wife, Holly, and Justin Ridley; and his cherished grandchildren, Bryce, Josh, London, Jackson, and Ava Ridley. The greatest joy of Dennis’s life was his family. He and Nancy built a life grounded in love, commitment, faith, and service to others. His family was his greatest blessing, and he treasured the time they shared. Dennis was deeply involved in his local church, faithfully serving in numerous ministries and activities. He also enjoyed planning and leading outdoor adventures with friends. His favorite pastimes included cycling, kayaking, cruising in his convertible, and woodworking. Whether serving others, spending time with family, or enjoying the outdoors, Dennis approached life with enthusiasm and a generous spirit. Dennis will be remembered as a man of integrity, humility, and quiet strength. He believed in honoring commitments, working hard, serving others, and always putting family first. His life reflected courage, discipline, kindness, generosity, and an exceptional attention to detail. Dennis leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and friendship that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of his family and friends. The family will receive friends at Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville on Sunday, October 25, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM with a funeral service to follow officiated by Rev. Jerry Mantooth. Family will hold a private interment service with military honors at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service 865-983-1000 www.smithlifeandlegacy.com
