John Woodfin Proffitt, Jr.

John Woodfin “Woody” Proffitt, Jr., age 69 of Maryville, TN passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Woody was a veteran of the US Army and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed wood carving, painting, gardening, and hiking and was a master of sarcasm. He is preceded in death by his parents, John W. Proffitt, Sr. and Martha Proffitt; sister, Sherry Bonham and many other loved ones. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janie Proffitt; son and daughter-in-law, Richard Proffitt (Ashley); daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Fisher (Nick); grandchildren, Derek, Sean, Emily, Evan, Nicholas, Baer; stepmother, Jan Proffitt; sisters, Penny Piper, Mary Gray Hunter; many nieces and nephews.
