John Avery Elliott

Knoxville

John “Avery” “Big A” Elliott age 80 of Maryville, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home. He graduated from Young High School in 1962. Avery was a Veteran of the United States Army, SF4 – E-4 from December 2, 1964 through September 17, 1966 serving during Vietnam. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. in 2002.   Preceded in death by:  father, William “Bill” Elliott; mother, Clara Mae Coffey Elliott; brothers, Jack, Glenn, Lynn Elliott; sister, Betty Abbott.  Survivors include:  daughters, Regina (Tim) DeLong and Paula Elliott (Greg Malcomb);  grandson, Mark (Lauren) DeLong; brothers, Grady, Wayne (Nelda), and Vic Elliott; and long-time Army buddy, Ken Trickey. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Avery’s memory. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Smith Trinity Chapel.  Memorial service will be at 7:00 PM with Pastor Freddie Gibson officiating.  Family and friends will assemble for inurnment at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy.  Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
