John Newton Carr

June 8, 1933 — August 17, 2008

John Newton Carr, Jr. of Jefferson City and Maryville, TN was taken to our heavenly Father in the early morning of August 17, 2008. John was a member of the United States Air Force and NATO, and retired from Delta Air Lines at McGhee Tyson Airport. He was a devoted Christian and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In heaven, John will be reunited with his loving parents, Litha and John N. Carr, Sr. John was a believer that family came first. He loved, provided for and watched over every member of his family with tenderness and care. His memory will be carried on by his loving and grateful family: his wife of 53 years, Elfriede (Elly) Carr; their three children, John W. Carr of Maryville, Michael E. Carr and wife Anita Carr of Columbia, SC, and Sonja Smith of Maryville; five grandchildren, Laura and Jeff Carr of Nevada, Stacy Jordan and husband Jeff of Columbia, SC, Eric Carr and wife Lindsey of Camp LeJeune, NC and Ashley Smith of Maryville; five great grandchildren, Haillee, Anna, David, and Aaron Jordan of Columbia, SC, and Riley Smith of Maryville, and many loyal and cherished friends. Though John was his given name, most knew him simply as "Daddy", 'Papaw", "Poppy" or "Junior". He was a wonderful husband, father to all, and loved each of us whole heartedly, as we did him. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 in the Smith West Chapel. Family and friends will assemble at Grandview Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for the interment. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Kevin Strickland officiating.
