John Eugene Cain passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025 in Maryville, Tennessee. He was born on March 24,1942 to Harold and Mary Catherine (Quigg) Cain in Lafayette, Indiana. He was raised on a grain and cattle farm in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1960 in Lafayette, Indiana, where he played baseball and basketball, attended Purdue University, and graduated from the University of San Francisco with a liberal arts degree. He served in the Army Reserves and was in insurance sales in San Francisco, California, Los Angeles, and Seattle where he and his wife also owned a Baskin Robbins. He then retired to Sun Lakes, Arizona, before moving to Knoxville, Tennessee. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years, Carol Ann (Newhart) Cain. He is survived by sister, Margaret (Steve) Lovejoy of Zionsville, Indiana, brother, David (Sheila) Cain of Warrenton, Virginia, sister, Veronica (Bob) Mount, of Plainfield, Indiana, and Becky (Dave) Prugh of Maryville, Tennessee. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, special friends Joe and Susie Delaney, and his beloved cats, Paddy and Duffy. John had a great love of classical music and enjoyed attending performances by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. He enjoyed playing golf and made many friends throughout his life, as well as two holes in one. John was of the Catholic faith. His funeral will be Friday, June 20, 2025 with visitation at 10:00 am in the narthex of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Alcoa, Tennessee with a funeral mass at 11:00. Burial will be at 1:00 PM, Friday, June 20, 2025 follow at Grandview Cemetery.
