It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James Lamar Kumbar, who entered eternal rest on April 8, 2026, at the age of 84. James was born on December 4, 1941, in Washington DC, to Anthony (Tony) and Ida Kumbar.
James grew up in Suitland, Maryland alongside his brother, Joe (Betty) who preceded him in death and his sister, Mary Mason (Charles). He honorably served his country in the Navy, providing crucial support during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After his years in the service, James married Brenda Evans, his cherished wife of more than 58 years. They settled in Waldorf, Maryland, where they lovingly raised their four children: James (Jimmy) L. Kumbar Jr. (Angela), Cynthia Lang (Gary), Christopher (Chris) Kumbar, and Nathan Kumbar (Shana). In 2006 James and Brenda retired to Maryville, Tennessee.
James was a devoted husband and father, deeply committed to his family. He was a dedicated Christian and humble servant to the will of Jesus Christ and served as a Deacon at Madison Avenue Baptist Church.
James worked in grocery management for 50 years.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his beloved wife, Brenda, and his cherished children. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Liam Walters; Brandon (Kim) Craven; Justin and Jessica Lang; Ethan, Eli, and Ean Kumbar.
James will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his steadfast love for his family, and his quiet strength. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him.
