Jama Stinnett

Jama, who was born on Easter Sunday, March 29, 1959, passed away on New Year’s Day, 2024.  She graduated from Everett High School where she excelled on the Debate Team.  A hard worker all her life, she began working at Shoney’s while still in high school where she met her husband-to-be, Cephus Stinnett.  After high school she attended the University of Tennessee and later graduated from the Blount Memorial Licensed Practical Nurse program.  She provided health care to the area through her work at Blount Memorial Hospital, University of Tennessee Medical Center, East Tennessee Heart Consultants, and Premier Surgical Associates where she was instrumental in the development and implementation of the bariatric surgery program.

Jama enjoyed fishing, camping, playing Rook, crocheting, listening to music of any kind, watermelon, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Monte Vista Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cephus Stinnett; parents Lawrence and June Finchum; brother David Finchum; and nephew Scott Stinnett. Survivors include Son and Daughter-in-law Jessee and Kari Stinnett; grandchildren Avery and Weston Stinnett; Sister and Brother-in-law Angie and Sam Wood; Sisters-in-law Chris Stinnett and Vivian Kineman, and brother-in-law Cecil Stinnett (wife Karissa).

Nieces and nephews Jennifer Johnson (husband Josh), Samuel Wood (wife Meredith), Elizabeth Finchum, Lesley Pressley (husband Mark) Nathan Stinnett (wife Amanda), Kacie McGill (husband Jason), and Ike Stinnett (wife Michelle).

Great nieces and nephews Anneliese Wood, Landry Stinnett, Madison Bowman, Kyla Kineman, Kamryn Kirby, Reagan McGill, Mason Johnson, James Wood, Cale Stinnett, Steven Monday, Ian Sonner, Joab McGill, Aaron Stinnett; great-great niece Layla Bowman; special friend Krystal Cameron.

In lieu of flowers, please make a gift to Family Promise of Blount County or the Susan G. Coleman Foundation. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 4, 2023 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm in the Smith West Chapel with a Celebration of Jama’s life to follow at 7:00 pm with Rev.
