Helen McCarter

McCarter, Helen DeFoe age 90, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a charter member of Broadway Baptist Church where she served as Bereavement Chairman for over 25 years, where she coordinated many meals for families during their time of grief. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She served as pianist for the Adult Dept. for several years. She was a member of Blount Hills Homemakers Club for 50 years. Preceded in death by: Husband, Roy L. McCarter; Son, Timothy McCarter; Parents, O.L. & Nettie DeFoe; Sister, Ruth Craig; Brother, Cecil DeFoe. Survivors include: Daughters, Joy (Harold) Galyon of Smyrna, and Karen (Jack) Hackworth of Maryville; Son, David McCarter also of Maryville; Grandchildren, Jana Leslie, Joel Hackworth, and Brad Galyon; Seven Great-Grandchildren; Special friend and Sister-in-law, Lucy (Frank) Drake. She leaves several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 7:30 PM, Monday, April 9, 2007 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Greg Long officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Broadway Baptist T.V.
