Helen McCarter

April 2, 1917 — April 7, 2007

McCarter, Helen DeFoe age 90, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a charter member of Broadway Baptist Church where she served as Bereavement Chairman for over 25 years, where she coordinated many meals for families during their time of grief. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She served as pianist for the Adult Dept. for several years. She was a member of Blount Hills Homemakers Club for 50 years. Preceded in death by: Husband, Roy L. McCarter; Son, Timothy McCarter; Parents, O.L. & Nettie DeFoe; Sister, Ruth Craig; Brother, Cecil DeFoe. Survivors include: Daughters, Joy (Harold) Galyon of Smyrna, and Karen (Jack) Hackworth of Maryville; Son, David McCarter also of Maryville; Grandchildren, Jana Leslie, Joel Hackworth, and Brad Galyon; Seven Great-Grandchildren; Special friend and Sister-in-law, Lucy (Frank) Drake. She leaves several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 7:30 PM, Monday, April 9, 2007 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Greg Long officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Grandview Cemetery for the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Broadway Baptist T.V. Ministry, Library, or Building Fund, 2329 E. Broadway Ave., Maryville, TN 38704 (865) 982-6012.
