Helen Mae Tedford Lawson age 80 of Maryville, TN, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Colonial Hills Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. Helen was born Mary 18, 1930 in Maryville, TN to James & Flora (Sharp) Tedford. She married Dr. Bobby G. Lawson on July 13, 1957. She is a graduate of Everett High School and Tennessee Tech University. Helen was a dedicated teacher who taught for 27 years teaching at Townsend, Alnwick, Fairview, and Greenback schools. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Maryville, TN and was known for teaching the Girls in Action missions program. Helen will be remembered as wife, mother, and teacher. Preceded in death by: Parents, James & Flora Tedford; Granddaughter, Audrey Lawson. Survivors include: Husband of 53 years, Dr. Bobby G. Lawson; Daughter, Cynthia Smith; Son & Daughter-in-law, Robert & Katie Lawson; Daughter & Son-in-law, Mary & Radley Lockmiller of Athens, TN; Grandchildren, Jane Smith, Sarah Lawson, and Kirk, Joshua, and Matthew Lockmiller; Sister, Mary Jane Miller. The family would like to thank all of her caregivers and the nursing staff at Colonial Hills Nursing Center for all their love and care. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, at Smith West Chapel with the Funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM, Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Smith West Chapel with Rev. Charles Ballard officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Mattox Cemetery in Wears Valley, TN for the interment.
