Obituary

Harry Overton Nash, age 93, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in New Jersey on February 4, 1933, and raised in Dunellen, Harry lived a full life marked by service to his country, devotion to his family, and a lifelong love of flight. Harry proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Siboney during the Korean War, working as a mechanic to keep Douglas AD Skyraiders and F6F Hellcats in the air. It was there that he developed a passion for planes and flying that stayed with him for the rest of his life.

Harry was a devoted husband and father, and he passed his love of boating and flying on to his sons, spending many cherished hours sharing these passions with them. He had a deep appreciation for music, from the jazz of his younger years to a later love of Andrea Bocelli. Harry was also known and loved for his great sense of humor and his fondness for a good practical joke, bringing laughter to everyone around him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty; his son, David; and his sister, Evelyn. Harry is survived by his son, James Nash, daughter-in-law Michele Nash, and granddaughter Emerald Nash, all of Maryville, Tennessee; his brother, Charles Nash, of Middlesex, New Jersey; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Harry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind. A private memorial service will be held with family and friends at a later date. Condolences may be shared at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, 865-983-1000, www.smithfuneralandcremation.com.
