Neal Wormsley, 87, of Maryville, Tennessee passed away at his home on September 7, 2025. Born on March 20, 1938 in Fleming Neon, Kentucky, Neal was the son of Harlan and Bernice Wormsley. He served in the United States Army based in Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1963-67. He graduated from Everett High School in 1956. He attended Maryville College and graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan. He played basketball at Everett and Maryville College and was known for his left hand hook shot. He also played baseball while at Tennessee Wesleyan. Neal began his career at Robert Shaw before embarking on his 40 plus years at The University of Tennessee in accounting and IT. Leaving his mark as a System Wide Vice President at the University of Tennessee. After retiring three times, Neal could be found atop the tractor plowing and planting his garden overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Neal was an avid sports fan and never missed a chance to cheer on his Tennessee Volunteers. Neal coached the West Hills Baptist Church League basketball team, winning the State Championship on his 38th birthday in Jackson, Tennessee. He loved his family, roots and home more than anything and passed this down to his family. Neal will be forever remembered for his generous heart and wanting to help those in need. Neal is proceeded in death by his parents Harlan and Bernice Wormsley, and his brother-in-law, John Grant. Neal is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beverly Jo; his two children Thomas(Trish)Wormsley of Bradenton, Florida and Angela(Mark)Snyder of Lenoir City, Tennessee and two grandchildren Matthew and Katie Snyder. He is also survived by his wife’s two children Toby Caldwell(Angie) and Christy Gamble(Christopher) and two grandsons Charlie Caldwell and Gabriel Gamble. He is also survived by his brother Mickey Wormsley(Krista), his sister Anetha Grant, and niece Lillie Grant. Neal is also survived by his children’s mother Vivian Wormsley. Family will receive friends at 12:00 PM on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Smith Trinity Chapel with a private interment to follow.
