Glenn Willard Johnson, age 84, passed away at home on September 13, 2024 in Shannondale, Maryville, TN. He was born in Nicholson, PA on the Johnson family farm. He grew up in Nicholson, and upon high school graduation from Lakawana Trail High School, he attended Penn State University to study Chemical Engineering. After earning his Bachelor's Degree from Penn State, he married his hometown sweetheart, Annabelle (Ann) Pratt on June 24, 1961. They moved to New York State for his position at GE in Schenectady. After the birth of their first child, Cindy, in January of 1964, Glenn returned to school at RPI to pursue his doctorate in Chemical Engineering. After earning this degree in 1967, they moved to Syracuse, NY for a position with Bristol Labs (later to become Bristol-Myers Squibb). They then welcomed a second child, Paul, in August of 1970. The family remained there for 27 years. While in Syracuse, Glenn was active with the Jaycees, Lions' Club, and his church. He also coached sports teams for his children's activities. He was committed to his family and proud of their accomplishments. Glenn and Ann were also known to enjoy dancing at the local American Legion Hall most weekends. Glenn was very committed to educational achievements. He was proud of his daughter upon her graduation from Colgate University with a BA in psychology and of his son upon his completion of West Point with a BS in Engineering Management. This commitment to education continued with the birth of each of his 6 grandchildren. Every Christmas and birthday, they would receive savings bonds, which came to be called "college money" by them all. Upon retirement in 1994, Glenn and Ann relocated to Royal Oaks in Maryville, TN. While in Royal Oaks, they made many new friends, played a lot of golf and bridge, supported their new church, and enjoyed retirement. Cruising became a favorite past-time, as well as travels to visit their children and their families. In 2016, they moved to Shannondale in Maryville, TN. Here they continued to make new friends, stayed in touch of old ones, and played a lot of bridge. Glenn is survived by his loving wife and forever companion, Ann, his older brother, Cliff (Carol) of Pinehurst, NC, his daughter, Cindy (Pedro) and his grandchildren Liana (Joel) and Luis (Laura). He is also survived by his son, Paul (Alisa) and his grandchildren, Julia, Elise, Rachel, and Pauly. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at Broadway United Methodist Church, 309 East Broadway, Maryville, TN, 37804 on Saturday, September 21, 2024 with visitation to begin at 1pm and a service follows at 2 pm.
