Edna "Eddie" Hubbs, age 93, of Maryville, TN, peacefully passed away August 11, 2026, at Life Care Center of Blount County.
Eddie lived a long, purposeful life centered around her family. In her younger years, she worked as a dedicated telephone operator for BellSouth for 40 years. She took great pride in being one of the switchboard operators of years past, helping to connect people across distances with her characteristically warm and steady voice.
While her career connected the public, Eddie's true life's work was connecting her family. As a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt, family meant everything to her. She was the undeniable glue that held everyone together. For 46 years her home was the heart of every holiday, hosting wonderful Christmas gatherings and family celebrations that helped forge lifetime bonds. Her warmth, hospitality, and fierce devotion created a sanctuary of love and support.
We will deeply love and miss her, carrying her spirit with us in our sweetest memories.
She is proceeded in death by her mother and father, Rubye and Everett Hubbs. Sister and Brother-in-law, Christine and Wayne Bohanan, Brothers and Sisters-in-law Earl and Lorene Hubbs and Don and Barbara Hubbs. Niece and Nephew Melissa and Roger Hubbs.
Eddie is survived by her Brother David Hubbs; sister-in-law and Susie Swanner; nieces and nephews Leigh Anne Ellis, Gary (Pam) Bohanan, and John (Millie Hubbs. She is also survived by a host of great nieces and nephews and their families that loved her dearly.
That family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Life Care Center of Blount County and UT Hospice. Thank you for your care, deep respect and profound compassion shown during her final days.
In honor of Eddie's lifelong love for gathering family together, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, you spend an intentional evening sharing a meal with the people you love.
