Obituary

Douglas Craig Fish, 82, of Maryville, TN passed into his heavenly home on Friday, June 5, 2026. He was born in 1943 on an Air Force base in Montgomery, AL and moved around with his family, eventually settling in Knoxville. He met his wife, Arlene, when she was hired to work at the grocery store where he was a stock clerk, and he made a pitiful first impression. He told her he was too busy to talk when introduced, and she quickly decided she didn’t like him, but somehow he won her heart and they were married for 60 happy years. Despite this first impression, he truly was one of the kindest men one could know. Doug was intelligent and witty, known among family and friends for his “Fish tales.” He loved telling stories that weren’t true just to see if people would believe him, and often they did. Recently he told his nurses that they deserved a raise, and that he owned the hospital and would make sure that happened! He loved to make people laugh. Doug was a great fan of the Vols, the Braves, fishing, golfing, and reading. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, and enjoyed feeding and caring for the wildlife around his home. He spent his whole working career with White Stores/Food City, beginning as a stock clerk while attending UT Knoxville and working his way up to store management before retiring. After retirement, he enjoyed many years of cruising and traveling internationally with Arlene. Doug was grateful for the wonderful care from the nurses and staff at Foothills Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center. They treated him and the family with tremendous care and compassion, and their genuine kindness created a loving and supportive environment. Doug leaves behind his loving wife, Arlene Graham Fish; son Steven Fish; son and daughter-in-law David and KC Fish; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Chris and Allie Fish; grandson Nick Fish and fiancé Sophie Foster; grandsons Matt Fish and Daniel Fish; granddaughter Sarah Fish; great-grandsons Peyton Fish and Josiah Fish; brother and sister-in-law Ron and Susan Fish; and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Joe Riley, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father , Douglas Llewellyn Fish, and his mother , Mary Louise Fish. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, June 16th at Monte Vista Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall. Friends and family are invited to drop in between4:00 and 6:00 p.m. Condolences may be shared at Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
