David Herbert Moler

David Herbert Moler passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday morning July 15, 2025, at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ida, son, Phil (Jennifer), granddaughters, Sarah and Rebecca. He is also survived by Miri and Rick Blair, special cousins Cathi Morriss, Ron and Jody Mason, and his best canine friend, Coco, and many extended family members. He is predeceased by his parents, Herb and Pearl Moler, and daughter, Suzanna Lynn “Suzie” Moler.

Born on February 2, 1938, Dave was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and grew up in Bridgeport, West Virginia. He moved to Friendsville, TN after high school and met, fell in love with, and married his neighbor, Ida Ruth Curtis. Dave attended the University of Tennessee before serving in the U.S. Navy between 1958 and 1964. Following his service, they made their home in Rockford, TN.

Dave began his career at National Electric Coil before co-founding Associated Electric Motor Service with his friends and partners, work that brought him both professional pride and lifelong friendships.

A devoted servant of the Lord, Dave was a dedicated member of Friendsville United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and regularly visited nearby rest homes with the “Friendship Choir”, bringing joy through music and conversation. His powerful rendition of “O Holy Night” at the annual Christmas Eve service became a treasured tradition. Dave also volunteered many hours at Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) in Friendsville.

Dave was a die-hard fan of the Volunteers, especially Lady Vols Basketball, proudly holding season tickets for many years. He spent many years being an all-around supporter at Eagleton Little League Ballpark, coaching and fundraising. He also had a passion for vintage cars and trucks and was an active member of the Smoky Mountain Truck Club, where he enjoyed both the shows and the camaraderie. At home, he could often be found watching the Game Show Network and could have won it all if given a chance to be on The Price is Right.

Dave loved his family and community with all his heart. His contagious laugh and cheerful whistling lifted spirits wherever he went. He will be remembered as generous, supportive, funny, and patient--a man of quiet strength and deep love. Dave will forever be in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Friendsville UMC Food Drive, or Shriners Children’s Hospital.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Friday, July 18, 2025 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM with Pastor Betty Furchess and Pastor Don Ferguson officiating. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family.
