Dave Arden Chaffin, born March 27, 1948, in Portsmouth, OH was the beloved son of Escal and Louise Chaffin. Dave was the youngest of six siblings and was preceded in death by his sisters, Anita and Jean, and his brothers, “Jack” and Mike. He is survived by his sister, Karen Ginn.

Dave married the love of his life, Rhonda, in 1969. Together they built a beautiful family, raising two sons: Ryan, married to Donna, and Neal, married to Angela. Neal and Angela blessed Dave with two granddaughters, Chloe and Claire, whom he adored. Dave also shared close bonds with many cousins and extended family members, all of whom affectionately knew him as “Uncle Dave.”

Dave’s career in sales spanned more than four decades. Over the years, he sold everything from gaskets to industrial tools, approaching each role with integrity and a strong work ethic. He was deeply motivated by his desire to provide the very best for his family. His success was reflected not only in the many incentive and rewards trips he earned throughout his career, but also in the lasting personal and professional relationships he built — which remained strong into his retirement years.

Dave was known for his compassion, contagious laughter, and the way he always put others before himself. His cousin Gloria once said, “Just look for the circle of laughter, and that is where you will find Dave.” He loved spending time with family no matter the occasion. He loved fiercely and gave the very best hugs.

Dave enjoyed camping, driving “the boat” while his family skied, wakeboarded, and tubed, reading fiction novels, and cheering on UT sports. He never met a stranger and had a heart of gold, always ready with a kind word for everyone he encountered. His smile could light up even the darkest room. Dave made it a point to ensure every person he met knew they were loved and special in the sight of the Lord. His granddaughter Chloe perhaps said it best: “Grampy was the best example of how to live like Jesus.”

Dave deeply loved his church and the body of Christ, whom he considered his second family. He and Rhonda faithfully served for many years at Monte Vista Baptist Church. Dave served as a deacon and on several committees. Together he and Rhonda sang in the choir, led youth groups, and served in nearly every ministry opportunity available to them. Dave also enjoyed serving alongside his granddaughters by helping feed the homeless and preparing boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Dave lived a life devoted to serving the Lord and loving others well. His kindness, faith, laughter, and unwavering love for family and friends will never be forgotten.

Dave Chaffin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
