Rutledge, Cecil Morgan, age 89, of Smithfield, North Carolina, formerly of Maryville, Tennessee, passed way on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Wake Medical Center. He was born July 12, 1917, at Wirth, Arkansas, in Sharp County to Charles Millard and Myrtle Mae (Thompson) Rutledge. He was a decorated World War II Veteran who served in the European Theater, taking part in the D Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a farmer and a General Motors retiree. He was baptized in 1939 and was a member of the Baptist Church. Preceded in death by: Wife, Estel and his three sisters. He is survived by six children: Sherry Shockley, Julie Bates, Mary Bristow, Alice Moxley, Calvin M. Rutledge, and Betty Brightwell as well as fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Graveside service and interment with military honors will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Grandview Cemetery with Rev. J.W. Hopper officiating. Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Smith Mortuary, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
