Carol Ann West

West, Carol Ann , age 70, of Blount County, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Blount Memorial Hospital after a series of medical setbacks. She was a graduate of Maryville High School and Maryville College. Upon graduation from college, she began a lengthy teaching career at Carter High School in Knox County. She was soon persuaded to join the Department of Education in north Georgia as a high school English teacher, a role that she relished for 32 years. Among her various awards in Georgia was the Star Teacher award. She also established an introductory course of Spanish for Whitfield County schools, which was very successful. After retiring from the education field, she started another career with the Liz Claiborne Company and very much enjoyed the fine friendships and associations that she developed in that role. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry James West & Mayme Williams West; sisters, Elizabeth Davis of Knox County and Frances Thornton of Blount County. Survivors include her brothers, Henry James West Jr. of Charlotte, NC, John M. West of Maryville and David C. West of Atlanta, GA The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Smith Mortuary, Maryville. A private memorial service will follow at Smith Mortuary.
