Brant Sloan

October 26, 1969 — August 10, 2025

Brant Sloan, 55, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Maryville, Tennessee. Born on October 26, 1969, in Flint, Michigan, Brant lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his profession, and the many passions that brought him joy.

Brant graduated from John Curtis Christian High School and pursued his education as a student athlete at Northeast Louisiana University and member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He later attended the Charity School of Nursing. He received his Master’s in Nursing Informatics which led him to a fulfilling career as a registered nurse at The University of Tennessee Medical Center for the last 19 years—a role in which he served with compassion and integrity.

For 32 years, Brant shared a devoted marriage with his wife Kelley Sloan. Together they built a loving family that includes their children; Brant Micah, Brock Malachi (Louisa), Brody Matthew (Nylah), Braia Marinda and Brynn Marie. He was a proud grandfather to Sturgill Ray and Weston Lavon. Brant also leaves behind his father, Joe Sloan; mother-in-law, Karen Layus; sisters, Callie Neece (Steve) and Gabrielle Chase; brother-in-law Patrick Layus; nephew, Colby Layus; niece, Amelia Belle Layus; brother-in-law Andrew Layus.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Sloan and father-in-law, Charles Layus; aunts, Deborah Peek, LaDonna Peek; uncle, Fred Peek; cousin, Chad Peek. Brant also recently lost a close cousin, Jeremiah “Buzz” Peek.

Brant’s life was rich with the things he loved most— teaching and coaching at John Curtis Christian High School, coaching his three boys in football and baseball, cheering on the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints, golfing with the boys, vacationing at Tybee Beach, and watching his girls and youngest son cheer. His greatest love was found in being “PopPop” to his two grandsons. He found joy in being present for his family’s milestones and was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. We are deeply grateful to Carolyn Alexander for opening her home to us while Brant was at MD Anderson in Houston. Your kindness and warm hospitality meant the world to us. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at MD Anderson and UT Knoxville for their care.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Celebration of Life service will be at 4:00 at Smith Trinity Chapel.

Brant’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, energy, and unwavering love for those around him. May his legacy bring comfort to all who knew him.
