Alvin Lee Hord was born on July 28, 1947. He was such a blessing to his family and friends. He spent his life helping other people. He graduated from Lee College in 1970 and immediately began his work as an educator. He served in many roles inside of Blount County Schools. As the Director of Schools, he was able to leave a lasting legacy with countless lives he impacted and helped along the way. His greatest chapter of life was the last one. He was able to give all of his focus to being a husband, father, and grandfather. His family will miss him dearly. He taught them all many things. He loved to garden, work in the yard, and paint. He took the time to teach those things to his family up until his last few days of life. He resides in heaven now with his Lord and Savior that he longed to see. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruby Hord, his sisters (Charlotte, Vivian, and Marilyn), his brother (Keith), and many other precious loved ones that are already in heaven. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Betty, his daughter Christi Prater (Scotty), his son, Brian Hord (girlfriend, Mindy), granddaughters Mackenzie and Hallie Prater, several special nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends: Harper, Mason, Ramsi, and Madison. The family will receive friends at RIO Central (370 S. Longhollow Rd, Maryville, TN 37801) on Friday, June 20, from 5-7 pm, with the service beginning at 7pm. The family will meet at Grandview Cemetery for the burial at 3pm on Saturday, June 21. The services will be officiated by pastors and friends, Ronnie Hepperly and Tommy Roberts. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in Alvin's honor to RIO Christian Academy, 370 S. Longhollow Rd, Maryville, TN 37801.
