Tammy C Dockins

August 18, 1959 — August 4, 2019

Tammy C. Dockins, 59, passed away August 4th after a valiant fight with cancer over the past year. She was a lifelong resident of Maryville and attended Lanier High School where she met the love of her life, Brad Dockins. They married soon after graduation and spent the next 41 years enjoying their lives together and raising three wonderful children. Tammy loved camping and the mountains, a passion she has passed on to her children, as well as long rides with Brad on their Harley Davidson. She was a devoted mother who always had time for long talks with her children and would give them the benefit of her excellent advice only when they requested it, which was often. She was Nonna to her five beloved grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly and knew at an early age that they had her wrapped around their little fingers. Tammy was also a loving daughter, sister, and aunt as well as a devoted wife who enjoyed her husband’s companionship above all others and tolerated his dodgy sense of humor with grace and patience for more than four decades. She was employed at East Tennessee Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for more than 30 years, retiring only when her battle with illness required all of her attention. Most of all Tammy was a child of God who did her best to live her life according to His will, even as she fought against cancer. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and was a blessing to all who knew her because she truly embodied the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and selfcontrol. Tammy is survived by her husband Bradley Dockins; daughter and son-in-law Brandi and Bradley Dyer; daughter Heather Dockins; and son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Jessica Dockins; her five grandchildren Gavin and Garrett Dyer and Sarah, Katie, and Abby Dockins; parents Sterling and Carol Carpenter, sister Jama Crye (Michael), and brother Scott Carpenter; sisters-in-law Loretta Ryan (Jim) and Susan Spencer (Morley), brothers-in-law Paul Dockins (Jane) and Roger Dockins (Millie); aunt Kim Gardner (Mike); and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, August 9th from 5 to 7 PM at New Hope Baptist Church, 605 Dotson Memorial Rd., Maryville with Rev. Mike Parker officiating the service immediately following. Graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Brooky Gray on Saturday August 10th at 11:00 AM at Grandview Cemetery, 2304 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville. An online memorial can be found on the website of Smith’s Funeral Home. Those wishing to express their condolences through donation in lieu of flowers may make a donation to the New Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, a cause very dear to Tammy’s heart.
