Jerry Lee Hurst

On Sunday May 1, 2022, Jerry Lee Hurst, age 72, beloved husband, father and papaw went to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ after a long bout with Parkinsons and COVID. Jerry was born on January 12, 1950 in Maryville to Clifton and Katherine Hurst. He had a brother, Darrell and sister Carol. He was a 1969 graduate of Walland High School where he excelled in basketball and football. He served as the Captain of the football team his Senior year. On July 1, 1969 he married the love of his life, Connie Sue Nuchols. They were married 53 years. Together they raised 2 children, son, Brad Hurst and daughter, Mandy Hurst McLemore. He was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard from 1969-1975. Jerry loved his church and church family. He was a member of Old Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also loved supporting his children and grandchildren. There was never an event or sporting event that he missed if he could help it. He always loved working with youth. He coached youth football for many years and was a youth leader at Old Piney Grove for several years. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind compassionate spirit. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Clifton, his mother, Katherine and his brother, Darrell. He is survived by his wife, Connie, his 2 children Brad (his wife Amy) and Mandy (her husband Chris), and grandchildren, Tyler Hurst, Camdyn Hurst, Jarrett McLemore and Jadyn McLemore, sister Carol Burchfield (husband Tom), brother in laws and sister in laws, Keith and Carol Morrison and Buster and Tresea Nuchols, several nephews, nieces and cousins. Special thanks to Blount Memorial Hospice Care. Especially Julie, Melissa and Stacy for taking special care of Jerry. Thank you also to Old Piney Grove for their outpouring of love via food, calls, visits and prayers. We invite family and friends to celebrate the life of Jerry at Old Piney Grove Baptist Church , 826 Old Piney Rd, Maryville on Saturday May 7. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 at Old Piney Grove followed by a service led by Rex Everett. A graveside service at Old Piney Grove Cemetery will follow led by Chad Morrison. Pallbearers are Tyler Hurst, Jarrett McLemore, Josh Nuchols, Justin Nuchols, Buster Nuchols, Keith Morrison, Tom Burchfield and David Nuchols.
