Charles Walker Bohannon Jr.

October 1, 1943 — January 29, 2018

Charles Walker Bohannon, Jr. passed peacefully from this world to the next on Monday, the 29th of January 2018, after an extended illness. Born on October 1, 1943, Charles was 74 years old. He was a native of Sylacauga, Alabama and a twenty-five year resident of East Tennessee. Although he cheered for UT in baseball, he remained a life-long University of Alabama fan. Charles earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Montevallo in chemistry and biology, then embarked on a successful 40-year career as an industrial chemist. During Vietnam, he served his country as an artillery instructor at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Patricia Bohannon; children, Chuck Bohannon (Jeanne)and Angelia Lindsey (Jeff); grandchildren Jimmy Ingram (Kelli) , Halie Wingo (Destin), and Duncan Bohannon; six great-grandchildren; his stepson Kevin Baxter (Allison) and step-grandson Elliott; as well as three siblings Barbara Adams (John), Franklin Bohannon (Nancy), and Frederick Bohannon (Denise); as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a large circle of close friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda “Polly” Bohannon, his parents, Charles and Oleva Bohannon, and several generations of German Shorthairs. Charles enjoyed golfing, fishing, bird-hunting, bee-keeping, and football. He was an amazing chef, who was known for his low country boils, which he frequently provided for his church, friends, and family. People who knew him well will remember him as a strong-willed man of faith, who served his family, community, and God with steadfastness and a resolute soul. We will miss how he doled out advice and “Bohannon-isms,” but we rest assured in the thought that he is at peace. "It is the secret of the world that all things subsist and do not die, but retire a little from sight and afterwards return again." – Ralph Waldo Emerson.
