Alan R. Turner, 78, of Maryville, (formerly of the Chicago area, IL and Braintree, MA) died Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at his home due to Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Brockton, MA on Thanksgiving Day, 1940, to the late Vernon and Katherine (Wheeler) Turner. He was a graduate of Braintree High School, Braintree, MA and Trinity College, Chicago, IL. While at Trinity he met his wife, Marilyn, who was the school nurse, and they were united in marriage on August 28, 1965. Al is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Johnston) Turner; daughter, Rachel Turner of Maryville, TN; daughter, Rebecca Turner of Little Elm, TX; son-in-law, Alok Kumar of Little Elm, TX; and dear grandson, Anil Kumar of Little Elm, TX. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and other relatives. Al loved all kinds of music! He played drums in a Drum and Bugle Corp. while in high school. He had a love of Bluegrass music and taught Bluegrass banjo at the Adler Cultural Center in Libertyville, IL. He also enjoyed playing the guitar. He loved photography and going to numerous custom car and hot rod shows. He was also very fond of his many cats as they were of him! Most of all, he was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed. He was a kind and good man, befriended and loved by many. We want to thank Avalon Hospice, especially his nurse, Cynda, for all their care and support. Also, thanks to our church family at Partnership Christian Church for their prayers and support. Memorial Services will be scheduled at a later date. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000, www.SmithFuneralandCremation.com.
