Marian Wanell Brown

February 2, 1923 — May 18, 2017

Marian Wanell Brown, age 94 went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 18, 2017. She graduated from Baileytown High School as valedictorian of her class in 1942 and went on to teach school. She was Kingsport Ketron High School’s ‘Band Mother of the Year” while her sons were in the band. She graduated from Beauty School and worked in a shop in Bloomingdale. She took painting lessons sponsored by Tennessee Eastman and painted as a hobby for many years. (One of her paintings recently sold for $80.) She also enjoyed making ceramics. She has served as primary and adult Sunday School teacher and sang in church choirs both in Bloomingdale and Alcoa. She was a member of Armona Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Coy Brown, four brothers and two sisters and parents T.N. and Carrie Cooter from Baileytown. She is survived by her children Linda Wolfenbarger and Elaine Brown of Alcoa, sons, Robert Brown of Palm Bay, FL and Kenneth Brown of Clinton; grandchildren, Brad Johnson of Maryville, Emily Smartt of Clinton, Julie Willis and Michelle McKinley of Florida; and great grandsons, Isaac Smartt and Devon and Conner Willis and great granddaughter, Alison. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2017 in the Smith Trinity Chapel with funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Lawson officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Zions Cemetery in Greeneville, TN for the interment. Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Maryville, 865-983-1000.
