Joyce Boteler Forth, age 88, of Maryville, TN, died on February 8, 2018, at Concordia Transitional Care in Maryville. She was born Joyce Evelyn Boteler on February 10, 1929 in Clearwater, FL, a descendant of the pioneering McMullen family. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1946 and attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. Although only a young teen at the time, she was a member of the Greatest Generation who protected our freedoms in World War II. She told stories of her father’s Victory Garden and of the many items Americans went without to ensure that soldiers had everything they needed. Her future husband Courtney Forth was a prisoner of war in Japan for 3½ years. She was preceded in death by: Husband, Courtney A. Forth; Parents, Thomas Lee Boteler and Evie Wilson Boteler; Two Sisters, Ruth Carr and Margaret McGaughey. She is survived by: Daughter & Son-in-law, Jeffrey Ann Koontz and Steve Koontz of Maryville; Grandchildren, Kelly Platillero (Paul) of Knoxville and Joey Koontz (Amy) of Southington, CT; Great-Grandchildren, Elisabeth and MaryAnn Platillero and Jonathan Koontz; Niece, Margaret Hamble of Oldsmar, FL; several great-nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Monday, February 12, 2018 at Smith Chapel. A private graveside service will be held.
