Jerry D. Freeman

June 14, 1946 — April 5, 2018

Jerry D. Freeman age 71 of Maryville passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at home. He was born in Rockford, TN and entered the US Army in 1965 and served as a Light Weapons Infantryman with the 1st Air Cavalry Division. Jerry fought in the Vietnam War in 1965-1966 and earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Air Medal. Jerry received his Honorable Discharge in 1968 and continued to serve with the Army National Guard where he retired with more than 30 years of service. Last year Jerry flew to Washington, DC for a HonorAir flight #24! He was also presented with a Quilt of Valor in 2017. In 2014, Blount County Veterans Affairs Office helped Jerry obtain his High School Diploma from Lewis and Clark High School in Washington State! Jerry retired from Coca-Cola and B & C Bus Line. Preceded in death by: Mother & Step-dad, Vearness Warlick & Joe; Grandparents, Charlie & Ethel Rowland; Father & Mother-in-law, Frank & Florence Raines. Survivors include: Wife of 50 years, Joyce Freeman; Sons & Daughters-in-law, Dean & Missy Freeman and Jody & Cheri Freeman; Grandchildren, J.D. Freeman & Kayla, Darren Freeman & Ally, Patrick Everett, and Melanie Everett; Great-Grandchildren, Parker Wenzel and Winter Rune; Sister, Evon Dougherty; Brother & Sister-in-law, Robert & Brenda Freeman; several brothers & sisters-in-law, two aunts, several cousins; several nieces and nephews and countless friends. Family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Smith Trinity Chapel. Funeral service will be at 4:00 PM with Pastor Delbert Raines and Rev. Billy Carrigan officiating.
