Jack L. Gibson

February 10, 1930 — July 9, 2018

Jack Lyndon Gibson, 88 of Maryville peacefully passed into the next life on July 9, 2018 in Maryville, TN. Jack was born in Hawkins County, TN to the late Nelle and Roy Gibson on February 10, 1930. He attended the University of Tennessee and was an avid UT football and basketball fan. Jack married his best friend, Jean Gibson in 1954. Their 63-year marriage was a beautiful picture of love, compassion, respect and admiration to his children and grandchildren. Jack served in the US Air Force as an internal auditor, and later had a successful career as an accountant for Alcoa. In his retirement, Jack gave back to the community by serving in the Meals for Wheels and Habitat for Humanity programs and was an active member of First United Methodist Church. To Jean, he was a loving husband and a great provider for his family. To his children, he was a patient and loving father. To his grandchildren, Jack was a beloved “Papa/Granddaddy”. He enjoyed spending time with all 5 of them at the lake in Friendsville, playing card games, going on trips to Gatti’s Pizza, and attending their various school and athletic events. He was most proud of his marriage and his family. Above all these titles (beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather), Jack was a devoted Christian. He will be remembered for his strength of character, honesty, faith and love of family. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Nelle and Roy Gibson, brothers Glenn and R.E. Gibson, and son-in-law Richard Reeves. Jack is survived by his wife, Jean Gibson, son Randy (Robin) Gibson of Knoxville, daughter Carol Reeves of Chattanooga, grandchildren Matthew Gibson, Michael Gibson, Lauren Gibson, Andrew (Chelsea) Reeves, and Lindsey (Brian) Walker, and great-grandchildren Harper Gibson and Caleb Walker. The family will be holding a private funeral and burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Knoxville Habitat for Humanity (http://knoxvillehabitatforhumanity.com/habitat-for-heroes/).
